I worked with Mark Maddox and Nancy Jolly. Both were very professional yet very approachable and helpful. I needed instruction and assistance regarding financial and healthcare powers-of-attorney, a revised last will and testament, and whether establishing a family trust was advisable. The initial consultation was excellent and thorough. I was asked questions regarding our current family situation and our long-term desires and then given different options that could be pursued. I was quoted the cost of each option and given time to consider what approach I thought was best. There were no high-pressure sales tactics. After selecting the approach we thought best, we gave Mark the go-ahead. From that point on, Mark and Nancy did all the work to gather the needed information and prepared all the documentation to execute the approved plan. They then inquired about when the best time to execute the documentation was and offered several dates and times for us to choose the best time for all of the family to gather and sign the documentation. At the time of signing, Mark and Nancy explained the purpose of each document and the responsibility of each person to whom that document applied. They further identified options that were available for future action if deemed appropriate. Time was made to ask any questions or ask for clarification of any item or document. Upon completion of the signing process, each family member was offered both paper and digital copies of every document. Additionally, instructional letters were included to advise each family member of their responsibilities and any actions they needed to perform to complete the process (i.e., documents to be filed with the county clerk and insurance changes). He further offered to answer any questions anyone might think of in the future. He also requested we contact him if there were any changes in the family situation that might necessitate relevant action on his part. Mark provided clear advice and recommendations. He offered examples of situations to help clarify the intent of the approaches he was offering. Nancy was extremely helpful in assisting us in the entire process of appointments, payments, and documentation. I originally chose Elder Law Lawyers because this is all that they do. My siblings and I have only the greatest praise for this law firm.  During the time of applying for Medicaid for our mother, we would have really messed up the process due to our lack of correct information. However, with expert Medicaid assistance from Laura Helvey several missteps were averted and the application was completed.  As it would happen, our mother passed away before the application was submitted. After all the time and effort Mark Maddox and Laura invested in our case, we were given a very generous refund of their fee because Mom passed before some of the work was completed. I went to Elder Law Lawyers after my Mother was admitted to Nursing Home Rehab after a Hospital visit.  I had so many questions about our next steps and had no idea where to start.  Mr. Mark Maddox and his team were there to help and navigated our Family through that situation, and prepared us for the future.  I can't thank him and his team enough.  Just a tip, go to Elder Law Lawyers before your elderly loved one lands in A Hospital and Rehab situation. Derek Humfleet served as our estate planning attorney.  We did not know exactly what we wanted other than to protect our investments, our assets and our estate upon our passing.  Derek walked us through several options, explaining the pros and cons of each option based on our particular circumstance and desired end-state.  He also provided recommendations for our Wills and Medical preferences.  We are extremely happy with the final product and have peace of mind knowing we have the appropriate legal documents in place that provide the protections we desired. A good friend had told me how pleased he was with the knowledge and expertise of Elderlaw Lawyers’ Mark Maddox, Attorney at Law. I went to him not only about protecting my estate for my only child, but also about all proper legal documents necessary for my sister, who is a nursing home resident. Mark spent two hours with my husband and me, never rushing, and told us each and every step to take for ourselves, as well as for my sister. I followed his instructions to a T, and could not believe how much foresight he had and how well everything worked out over time. As well, because my sister has difficulty walking, Mark met me at my sister’s nursing home to have my sister sign all the needed documents. Again, he explained everything thoroughly to my sister and was so kind and patient. Mark is a true gentleman. A year later, my sister’s funds were exhausted (after four years of expensive nursing home care), and I needed to apply on her behalf for Medicaid. I had no idea how to even begin, and it was of great importance to me that I do everything properly for someone I cherish. I reached out to Mark, again meeting with him. He brought his Medicaid expert to our meeting. She is a lovely lady named Laura Helvey. It turns out that Laura had worked for Medicaid for 25 years, and when she retired from the State, Mark reached out to her to become part of their firm. I couldn’t have been more lucky. Laura knows more about the Medicaid application process than probably anyone in Central Kentucky (except those working for Medicaid). She devoted herself to my sister’s case, which was complicated because some of my sister’s income sources were from Canada (think of the ever-changing exchange rate problems alone). Just like Mark, Laura gave me precise instructions on all documents I needed to obtain. All I had to do was follow Laura’s directions, which I happily did. True to my experience with Mark, everything worked out perfectly, due to Laura’s high level of knowledge, diligence, and patience. Believe me, applying for Medicaid successfully is no easy feat. But Laura, Mark, and ElderLaw Lawyers saw me through the entire process with the State granting Medicaid approval. You could not be in more trustworthy and experienced hands than I was, and knowing that my sister is safe is everything to me.
